Telia Rumal Dupatta

The word Ikat originates from theIndonesian language, meaning ‘to tie’, or ‘thread’. Ikat has many variations across the world and comes in different kinds of weaving. In India, the Ikat forms from Orissa and Telangana states are known for their colours and woven patterns. This particular dupatta is known as Telia Rumal Dupatta and is handwoven in Telangana. It is woven using the weft and warp techniques and is a very dextrous, complex and time taking procedure. The word 'Telia' in its name comes from the use of oil in the process of making it. Telia Rumals are now very rarely woven in the original style and are hard to find. Entire families of weavers are involved in different steps of the process to create this geometric masterpiece!
